Day 02
Nairobi to Longido Camp
You will be met by your Tour Guide and will then drive to the Tanzanian
border.
Once across the border you will continue to our Longido Mountain
View Camp located in the foothills of Mount Longido, the highest
mountain in the region.
You will have time to settle into the camp and have lunch before
embarking upon a short trek to the lower slopes of Mt. Longido.
The aim of this trek is to allow you to start acclimatising to the
heat and the surroundings.
Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 03
Longido to Kitumbeine – 25km
You will have a vehicle uplift for 25 km to the start of the trek.
From there you will travel on foot for the remaining 25km towards
the Kitumbeine Mountain. You will share the path with Maasai herdsmen
and their cattle and get a glimpse of Mount Oldonyo Lengai, the
sacred Maasai mountain.
Lunch will be served in the Bush.
The trek today will be very sandy, dusty and sometimes rocky underfoot.
The last 3km will have very loose, porous dust soil until we arrive
at our Kitumbeine Zebra Camp for cold juice and showers!

Day 04
Kitumbeine Village – Maasai Markets
Today we will lead you into the most remote village of Kitumbeine
where the Maasai live according to their traditions with no experience
of modern life. You will be able to meet the people, find out about
their life and enter into their Bomas (huts).
You will also be able to buy souvenirs and gifts from their village
market.
The trek will be rocky and dusty as you enter areas very rarely
visited by tourists. There will be fabulous views of the open plains
as you trek up onto the lower slopes of Mt. Kitumbeine as well as
views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Back at the camp in the late afternoon, there will be time for showers
and dinner before watching the Maasai dance by the campfire. You
will also be able to ask the Maasai Warriors any questions you have
about their way of life. Our guides will be there to translate!
Overnight at the camp.
Day 05
Explore the Nagarirat Plains heading to Gelai approx. 15 –
20km
Today you will leave the camp early in the morning before being
driven to the start of the trek.
You will start trekking just before the beautiful plains of Nagarirat.
This will be a very challenging part of the trek as normally the
weather is very hot. We recommend that all participants drink a
lot of water, wear loose clothing, sun hats,lots of sunscreen and
sturdy walking boots.
The Nagirirat Plains have lots of animals. You may come across giraffe,
zebra and the Greater Kudu. You will also witness some land features
with amazing shapes, ie. Termite hills.

Day 06
Gelai to the Sunken Crater approx. 25 km
Another early start for another challenging day! We will be crossing
the Lava Plains which will be very hot. The area is very open with
limited shade all the way to the Sunken Crater. Again we would ask
participants to drink lots of water and wear sun hats and lots of
sun screen.
We will have lunch in the middle of the Plains, hopefully under
some of the limited shade!
We will arrive at the rim of the Sunken Crater and take time to
soak in the views. It is normally very windy in this area and there
are likely to be quite cool temperatures at the camp which is situated
close to the sacred mountain, Oldonyo Lengai.

Day 07
Heading to Engaruka approx 18 – 25 km
You will depart the Sunken Crater camp in the morning and head towards
Engaruka passing the Olkerii Plains.
You will be driven the last 5km before arriving at Jerusalem Camp.
There will be the opportunity to visit the Engaruka Ruins before
an early dinner and an end of trek celebration around the camp fire
with you supporting team.
Day 08
The Famous Crater of Ngorongoro
After an early breakfast you will say goodbye to your supporting
team and head off in your safari vehicles to the Crater passing
through the town of Mto Wambu along the way.
You will experience a full day’s game drive in the crater
with a picnic lunch.
Dinner and overnight will be at Migunga Tented Camp.
